Wallonia's government decided on Thursday to approve two major grants, totalling some €4.3 million, for green waste management and innovation in the social economy.

The first grant, worth €3.9 million, will go to Idelux Environnement to support the ‘WasteLux’ portfolio of projects aimed at improving and optimising the treatment of green and organic waste in Wallonia.

The second will go to SAW-B, an accredited Walloon social economy operator and winner of the second call for projects under the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Programme 2021 - 2027 Wallonia-Brussels.

This grant, amounting to €350,770, will be used to strengthen managerial and entrepreneurial skills in the social economy.

The social economy is made up of organisations such as cooperatives, mutuals, associations, foundations and social enterprises that share certain values and features. These include, for example, putting people over profits, being governed democratically and reinvesting most of their profits.
