The lifeless body of a person was discovered in the debris of a fire overnight from Saturday to Sunday on Chaussée de Gilly in Jumet, Charleroi.
The Charleroi prosecutor’s office confirmed the news late on Sunday morning, corroborating reports from several media outlets.
Firefighters in Charleroi responded to a severe fire affecting two homes on Chaussée de Gilly in Jumet last night. After controlling the flames, they inspected the site and found the lifeless body of a person in one of the houses.
The Charleroi prosecutor’s office was informed of the incident and has decided to open an investigation. A fire expert and the lab have been tasked with conducting the initial investigation.
"The victim identification service will be necessary to identify the body. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage," the judicial authority commented on Sunday.
