The Government of Wallonia on Thursday approved a draft decree reforming day centres for the homeless in the region.
These support structures will now be able to obtain accreditation, and benefit from stable annual funding for their missions, enabling them to strengthen their psycho-social support.
Each approved centre will receive annual funding of €30,000 in the first year, rising to €46,500 in the second.
Additional aid of €10,000 is planned for centres developing specific initiatives for women, and for those hosting at least 50 people.
According to the Walloon government, there are 14,342 homeless or roofless people in Wallonia.
"Day centres are a particularly essential way of meeting the basic needs of this vulnerable population," Walloon Minister for Solidarity Yves Coppieters said on Thursday.
