Temperatures are set to drop to freezing in the south of Belgium. The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued code yellow for Saturday evening and night, as roads are expected to be slippery, and snow may fall.

Across Belgium, Saturday will be largely cloudy with a chance of rain, especially in the west. Maximum temperatures will be very cold, hovering around 0°C, and around 4°C in the centre of the country.

"During the day, a weak disturbance will move further over the country and when it reaches the Ardennes in the afternoon, the precipitation will be in the form of wintry rain," the RMI noted. For this reason, it has issued a code yellow warning for slippery roads in the provinces of Liège and Luxembourg, where the temperatures will be coldest.

"At the end of this afternoon and also tonight and overnight, it may start snowing in some places in these two provinces," it noted. "Especially in places at altitudes of 400 m and above, a snow carpet of 1-2 cm may gradually form. Locally (especially in the High Fens) some more snow is possible."

The warning will be in place between 17:00 and 01:00.

Sunday will remain grey in the south, with a chance of fog in the morning. Elsewhere, some temporary clearings are possible but then it becomes mostly cloudy with a chance of some light rain or drizzle. Temperatures will become somewhat milder, between 3 and 10°C.
