A 47-year-old woman was hit by a TEC bus in Hal, Flemish Brabant, on Thursday afternoon and taken to hospital in a critical condition, the Hal-Vilvoorde public prosecutor's office said, confirming a report in several media.
The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. on the Chaussée de Mons in Lembeek. The woman was hit as she crossed the road; however, the exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear.
"There are no cameras near the scene, but at least two witnesses saw the woman crossing and the bus was unable to avoid her," said the public prosecutor. "The bus driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. An expert will now try to determine the precise circumstances."
The bus driver was in a state of shock after the accident and was also taken to hospital. Two passengers were on board the bus but were not injured.
