The FTSE 100 index, which includes the top one hundred firms listed on the London Stock Exchange, reached a new milestone on Monday, closing above 9,000 points for the first time ever.
The index ended the day with a gain of 0.23%, equivalent to 20.87 points, closing at 9,012.99 points. While it had risen above this level during trading before, it had never closed this high.
The FTSE 100 features major companies such as AstraZeneca, BP, easyJet, Marks & Spencer, Shell, Tesco, and Vodafone.
European markets presented a mixed picture on Monday. In Paris, the CAC 40 index fell by 0.3%, while in Frankfurt, Germany’s DAX index gained 0.1%. Meanwhile, Brussels’s Bel20 index rose by 0.2 percent.
Investors are currently focused on the ongoing negotiations between the EU and the US on a trade agreement, aiming to avoid higher import tariffs from 1 August.
