Two police officers were injured during a forceful intervention last weekend in Hannut, as reported by the newspaper L’Avenir on Tuesday.
Police and firefighters were dispatched in large numbers around 2:45 on Saturday due to a significant brawl involving several dozen individuals.
During the intervention, two officers from the Hesbaye-Ouest police zone sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. One officer was hit by a table thrown by a suspect, while the other was bitten by a dog.
“For the past few months, groups of people have been wandering in the neighbourhood, often linked to drug trafficking. They are not patrons of the cafés nor participants in the activities. They wait for events to end to start fights,” stated Mayor Manu Douette, who is also the head of the local police area, to L’Avenir.
The mayor announced plans for meetings with local police authorities to implement new measures against the troublemakers.
