A man was seriously injured after being shot on Wednesday evening in the Outremeuse district of Liège, the Liège public prosecutor’s office reported on Friday, and his condition is considered life-threatening.
The incident occurred shortly before 21:00 on Wednesday at Jehan-le-Bel Square in Liège. For reasons yet to be determined, an individual shot the victim, a man born in 1981, before fleeing the scene.
The man in his forties was transported to the hospital in a critical condition. He underwent surgery overnight from Wednesday to Thursday and remained in intensive care as of Friday.
A ballistics expert visited the scene of the attack, where casings from a Kalashnikov-type war weapon were discovered. The suspect remains at large, the Liège prosecutor’s office concluded.
