The Brussels Labour Inspectorate says it has lifted a temporary block it had imposed on the renovation of a 57-room hotel, following the payment of a €215,000 security deposit by the company concerned.
The block had been imposed partly because no declaration of works had been submitted for the site and also because 12 of the workers employed there, most of them undocumented immigrants, had not been declared to the Social Security Office.
The issues at the site came to light during an inspection by the Regional Employment Inspectorate and the Social Laws Inspectorate.
The security deposit serves, among other things, as a guarantee for three months' wages and solidarity contributions, according to Labour Inspectorate Spokesperson Valentina Marocchi.
