The House Foreign Affairs Committee is to be convened on Thursday for an urgent exchange of views on the issue of Gaza, committee chair Els Van Hoof (CD&V), announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The Greens were the first to request on Tuesday evening that the committee be brought out of its summer recess. The majority parties, Christen Democratisch en Vlaams (CD&V) and Vooruit, rallied behind this request on Wednesday, followed by the Nieuw Vlaamse Alliantie (N-VA), which also deemed it useful to hold a meeting.

Ms. Van Hoof immediately announced that the meeting would be "urgently" convened on 14 August "to discuss with the relevant ministers the measures our country could take with regard to Israel and to put an end to the dramatic and hopeless situation in which the Palestinians find themselves."

"I would like to thank the Minister of Foreign Affairs in advance for his availability," she said.

In addition to Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, legislators also wanted to hear from Prime Minister Bart De Wever.
