A 71-year-old cyclist from Utrecht, the Netherlands, died on Monday evening after crashing his racing bike on a sharp bend in Voeren, Belgium.

The man lost control of his cycle around 6:15 p.m. while navigating a hairpin turn on Kasteelstraat in Teuven, and fell heavily onto the roadside verge.

Emergency services responded in full force, deploying an ambulance, a medical emergency team, and a helicopter. However, despite extensive resuscitation efforts, they were unable to save him.

Local police in Voeren documented the incident and, together with the Limburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, launched an investigation into its cause.

The road connecting Teuven and the Netherlands was closed for the rest of the evening.
