Between 6 and 12 October, an average of 2,438 people were infected with the Covid-19 virus every day, according to figures from the Sciensano public health institute published on Saturday. This is an increase of 28% compared to the previous week.
Furthermore, 60.4 daily hospital admissions of patients with the coronavirus were recorded between 9 and 15 October, up 5% compared to the previous period, Belga News Agency reports. A total of 824 infected persons were hospitalised (+14%), of which 190 were treated in intensive care (-7%).
From 6 to 12 October, an average of almost 11 people (10.6) died per day from the virus, an increase of 28% compared to the previous seven-day period. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium to 25,747.

An average of 45,800 tests were carried out daily, with a positive rate of 5.6%.
The reproduction rate of the virus currently stands at 1.06.
On Friday, Brussels introduced a new measure of "Covid Safe Tickets", making it mandatory to show proof of having been vaccinated in order to enter restaurants, bars and other venues.
