Daily Covid infections up by almost 30% in Belgium

Between 6 and 12 October, an average of 2,438 people were infected with the Covid-19 virus every day, according to figures from the Sciensano public health institute published on Saturday. This is an increase of 28% compared to the previous week.

Furthermore, 60.4 daily hospital admissions of patients with the coronavirus were recorded between 9 and 15 October, up 5% compared to the previous period, Belga News Agency reports. A total of 824 infected persons were hospitalised (+14%), of which 190 were treated in intensive care (-7%).

From 6 to 12 October, an average of almost 11 people (10.6) died per day from the virus, an increase of 28% compared to the previous seven-day period. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium to 25,747.

The reproduction rate of the virus currently stands at 1.06.

On Friday, Brussels introduced a new measure of “Covid Safe Tickets”, making it mandatory to show proof of having been vaccinated in order to enter restaurants, bars and other venues.
