Extinguishing and waste extraction operations are still taking place following a fire that broke out on Friday evening on the site of the old marble factories in Rochefort.

Fifteen firefighters are still working at the site. "These operations will take place for a good part of the day on Saturday," a fire service spokesperson said.

Late Friday evening, a large crane was installed at the site to begin dismantling of the roof, according to Belga news agency.

Initial smoke analyzes carried out by the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) unit for civilian protection did not reveal any toxic components released into the air. "However, all fumes are harmful", the spokesperson added.
