Specialising in caravan tourism for ten years, the French company Camping Car Park inaugurated its first area for campervans in Belgium on Tuesday in Herbeumont (province of Luxembourg).

Based in Loire-Atlantique, Camping Car Park operates around 400 caravan parks areas across Europe. Last April, the French company invested in the Belgian market with its first secure area in the commune of Herbeumont.

“We suggest that the municipalities organise the reception of itinerant tourists and support them from the start of the project. We then manage the caravan park area,” explains Remi Le Gloahec, commercial director of Camping Car Park, told the Belga News Agency.

Users have a badge allowing them to access the area and the various services it offers. Camping Car Park currently has 550,000 users in a European market of more than 2.5 million registrations.

“The market is exploding,” continues Remi Le Gloahec. “Belgium is the second European country to experience the strongest increase in terms of registration. That’s very good. But we still need solutions to be able to accommodate these camper vans.”

Developed by the municipality several years ago, the Herbeumont area has recorded around a thousand overnight stays since it was transferred to Camping Car Park last April. Overnight stays are billed to the user at 12 euros, with two-thirds of the turnover being donated to the municipality.

“The return on investment for the municipalities is very rapid. They also benefit from visibility with our network of users. We are seeing a rapid evolution in the number of visitors to the areas that enter the network.”

The French company is currently working with several Belgian municipalities to set up reception structures.
