After two very hot days on Monday and Tuesday, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a 'code yellow' for thunderstorms across all of Belgium on Wednesday.
Temperatures neared 40°C at the start of the week, but will drop down to regular summer highs between 23°C and 29°C in the coming days. On Wednesday, the light showers in the morning are expected to give way to thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.
"Today, the weather will be unstable with occasional thunderstorms," the RMI stated on its website, explaining why it issued a code yellow. "Local thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, hail storms, gusts and/or lightning strikes are expected, which can cause disruptions or damage. Be careful."
'Code yellow' means that there is at least a 65% certainty that the criteria of rainfall, thunder and gusts of wind of up to 100 km/h will be met.
