The Government of Brussels on Wednesday approved a draft implementing decree laying out the subcategories of taxi services along with the quotas and rates that apply to them.

The draft was approved in second reading.

Minister President Rudi Vervoort will now forward the text to the Council of State, which has 30 days to issue an opinion, which would mean that the timeline for the taxi reform will be met, something Vervoort has strongly advocated.

The ordinance should take effect on 22 October, when the current transitional regulation expires. The implementing decree thus had to be sent to the Council of State before the summer recess, following its approval by the Brussels government, which occurred on Wednesday.

Since the Council of State must deliver its opinion within 30 days, the government should finally be able to approve the implementing decree after the summer recess, so that the reform can take effect.
