No trace of prisoner who escaped from Ghent prison a year ago

Mouslim Aboubakarov, the inmate who escaped from Ghent prison last summer, has still not been found, one year after his spectacular escape.

The 41-year-old Russian inmate used a forklift to climb over the prison wall. A European arrest warrant and an international alert have been issued for him.

Aboubakarov was able to escape from the prison on 4 August, 2021 at 10:45 AM. At the time, dozens of prison and police officers went on a search for him, including the deployment of a helicopter, but the search operations were unsuccessful.

Mouslim Abubakarov had been imprisoned in 2012 for a series of offenses, including forgery and fraud, but mostly for robbery with violence and hostage taking involving torture. He still had more than three years left to serve on his prison sentence.

Since his escape, different tracks and clues have been been investigated, but authorities have not got closer to finding him.
