New design for Anthisnes Celtic music festival

A page is turning at “Les Anthisnoises”. The festival of Celtic music and culture is changing format and will now be spread over two years, rather than a single weekend every two years, as had been the case until now.

Since its first edition in the year 2000, the festival, which is held in the village of Anthisnes, Liège Province, has continued to grow, welcoming more than 20,000 people at its last edition, in 2018.

“Then in 2020, Covid came. We then wondered how we were going to restart the festival; a lot of things have changed over the past four years,” said Pierre-Jean Henrottin, president of the non-profit organisation running the event.

“The festival was becoming cumbersome to manage, the team was aging and certain items, such as energy and security, were becoming too expensive,” he added.

This prompted the organisers to adapt the event, while remaining in the same musical universe.

In concrete terms, evenings featuring three concerts, entitled “Nights of Avourie” will be planned in the great hall of the castle by the same name, as will a mini festival lining up about fifteen groups.

“Overall, there will be at least as many concerts as for the old festival,” said Henrottin. “We are still working to develop the concept for the new formula of the festival. It should take place during the month of May 2023, during Ascension weekend,” he added.

The first “Nights of the Avouerie” will take place on Saturday 8 October 2022 under the theme of Irish evenings.
