Hotels on the Coast can expect to have an excellent weekend, according to figures from the West Flanders tourist office, which puts hotel bookings for the upcoming long weekend at around 90-95%.

To this already high occupancy rate, many last-minute reservations also need to be added, Westtoer said on Friday.

The tourism office's figures further show that one in three rooms reserved for this weekend was booked by foreign customers. “The number of hotel rooms reserved by foreign customers is in the increase compared to last year," it said.

"From 1 July to 15 August inclusive, this percentage is 30%, while it was 21% for the same period in 2021,” Westtoer noted.

Due to the expected crowds, Westtoer and the ten coastal municipalities are asking beachgoers to equip each of their children with an anti-loss bracelet.

These child-friendly bracelets are available free of charge from lifeguards, tourist offices and public toilets, it said.

Tourists are also asked to keep the beaches clean and not to leave any litter behind.
