Subsidence was detected on Saturday in two buildings in Nivelles that were evacuated on Friday due to stability problems, Colette Delmotte, chair of the town's Public Social Welfare Centre told Belga News Agency.

The Walloon Brabant fire brigade was called up just before 3 p.m. on Friday for an intervention on the boulevard de la Résistance. For a still unknown reason, numerous cracks had appeared on the walls of a single-family home and an adjacent apartment building. All residents were evacuated.

“After the evacuation, a ground subsidence was established. It worsened on Saturday,” Delmotte explained. “A stability study will now be carried out before the residents can possibly return. As for the cause, we are thinking of a water leak, but that has yet to be confirmed," she added.”
