The NMBS (Belgium's national rail company) has announced that no trains will run between the Flemish cities of Aarschot and Hasselt for the next two weekends because of Infrabel works, although substitute buses will be made available to passengers.

During the weekends of 27 and 28 August, and 3 and 4 September, Infrabel will be carrying out maintenance work to modernise the railway's signalling system. This will bring it in line with the European security system ETCS.

The installation of new signals and power supply boxes, as well as extra cabling and track improvements, are also planned.

As a result, no trains will operate between Aarschot and Hasselt. However, the NMBS is deploying substitute buses between the two cities to minimise passenger disturbance.

From 13 August to 4 September, as well as on Monday, 15 August, the NMBS will adjust train traffic between Antwerp Central and Lier.
