Man sentenced to four years in prison in Leuven for attempted murder

The Leuven criminal court on Tuesday sentenced a man to four years in prison and €3,000 in damages for the attempted murder of an acquaintance, whom he stabbed in the neck.

The court held that he had unequivocally tried to kill the victim following an argument.

The incident occurred on 27 March at around 8 p.m. in Leuven. After the argument, the victim tried to flee and was pursued, then stabbed in the neck from behind. His assailant fled but was arrested a few streets away, shortly after midnight, after a witness spotted him, drunk and covered in blood.

The victim actually lost a lot of blood, but his life was not in danger thanks to the rapid intervention of the emergency services.
