King Philippe attended the inauguration of the “Miradas de Mujeres” exhibition on Thursday at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, in Brussels.

The exhibition, which opens to the general public on Friday, focusses on Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave's perspective on the Mexican icon Frida Kahlo. An immersive exhibition of the work of Kahlo recently concluded in Brussels.

The Royal Museums of Fine Arts is putting on four new exhibitions this autumn, among them "Miradas de Mujeres", which the King had the opportunity to visit for the first time. The exhibition reveals a dialogue between two women who have never met.

The artist-painter Isabelle de Borchgrave took nearly three years to create this exhibition, “a titanic work painted by hand, which required more than four kilometres of paper and cardboard to create dresses, carpets, furniture, trees and other elements reconstituting the very particular universe of Frida Kahlo and her house, the Casa Azul (The Blue House)”, the museum explains.

Alongside the installation dedicated to Kahlo, the museum is opening from Friday "Picasso & Abstraction" in partnership with the Musée national Picasso-Paris. For the very first time, the Spanish painter’s relationship to abstraction will be highlighted through more than 140 works.

The Belgian sculptor Jean-Pierre Ghysels will also be honoured in a third exhibition, together with the French multidisciplinary artist Prune Nourry, a rising figure in international contemporary creation, whose monumental work will adorn the main hall of the museum.
