The Brussels indictment chamber will decide on 6 December whether Soraya S., an influencer who was sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding dozens of people, will have to stand trial in the Court of Assizes for the murder of her two-month-old baby, the woman’s lawyer said Tuesday.
The case dates back to February 2019, when the influencer, who was 25 at the time, was staying with her two-month-old baby and three-year-old daughter at the Hotel de France in Saint-Gilles, not far from the Brussels-Midi station. On the night of 18-19 February, the woman burst into the reception area and asked for the emergency services to be called in because of a problem with her daughter. On arrival, the doctors found that the baby was not breathing.
The baby was then taken to hospital where he died a few days later.
The public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and questioned the mother, who said she had gone to take a shower and when she came out of the bathroom a few moments later, she noticed that the baby was no longer breathing.
The defendant claimed that her three-year-old daughter had lain on top of the baby, causing it to suffocate. However, medical experts detected an injury to the head of the young victim.
