A gynaecologist at the former Sint-Rembert hospital in Torhout (West Flanders), Geert V will not stand trial over allegations that he inseminated patients in the 1980s, VTM News reported on Thursday. The statute of limitations has expired on the complaint.
According to the prosecution, a formal complaint has been filed against the former doctor (now aged 70) in recent months. The complaint came from a man who recently learned that he had allegedly been born from artificial insemination of one of the doctor’s patients. A hotline was established in relation to the case, where 15 people got in touch to present evidence.
Despite this, no other complaints were filed against the former doctor. As a result, the case has now been closed and will not go any further. According to the prosecution, the practitioner denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
