A total of 168 Flemish businesses have been awarded the Green Key label, an international sustainability badge for lodging establishments, event venues, attractions and restaurants.

This was announced on Monday evening at the Blue Point conference center in Berchem.

Twenty-four of the locations on the list are new.

Green Key is a worldwide initiative of the NGO Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In Flanders, the GoodPlanet organisation coordinates the project, with the support of the regional tourism promotion agency, Tourism Flanders.

According to the initiators, the fact that more locations have been able to receive the label this year is partly due to financial support from local authorities.

Establishments that obtain Green Key labels commit themselves to making efforts in areas such as water and energy consumption, waste prevention and management, sensitising guests and patrons to reduce their environmental impact, green maintenance, and sustainable food and mobility.
