The tenth correctional chamber of the Court of Hainaut, Mons Division, sentenced a man on Wednesday to two years in prison for premeditated assault.
The defendant, who had been in custody since 2 August 2022, when he doused two people with ammonia, also received a two-month prison sentence for possession of weapons.
On 24 July 2022, one of the victims had told the defendant he no longer wanted him to put advertisements in his mailbox. The defendant responded by insulting the homeowner and threatening to kill him.
A week later, on 2 August 2022, another altercation broke out between the two men. The defendant had gone to a shop to buy a bottle of ammonia, which he then poured on the homeowner, injuring another man, the shop manager, in the process.
A nearby police patrol was able to intervene quickly.
The defendant was already known to the police since he had previously been arrested for being in possession of a knife.
