The Correctional Court of Antwerp has sentenced a former administrative assistant at the Antwerp public prosecutor's office to 40 months imprisonment and a €16,000 fine, half of which was suspended in each case.

The former assistant (Duygu C.) had looked up information in the national register and the computer system of the public prosecutor's office for a fee and had shared this data with the criminal community through her cousin Cenk T. and Nouh H.

In communications intercepted during the Sky ECC messaging revelations, screenshots were found from the national register and the prosecutor's office computer system. Further investigation brought Duygu C. into the picture. She had used the login data of a colleague, as well as her own, to perform searches.

Duygu looked up friends and relatives as well as carried out searches for dock workers, suspects in drug cases and even a prosecutor's magistrate. Why she searched for the latter remains unclear.

All parties brought to justice

Duygu C. was detained on 27 March 2021 and said she had acted at the behest of her cousin Cenk T. He sent her a message via Snapchat with what to look for and she sent the reply back via the same means. He took a screenshot and forwarded it to Nouh H., who further distributed the screenshots through Sky ECC.

When the charged went on holiday to Turkey, she had given her laptop and login details to Cenk T. so that he could search the database himself. She stated that she had received €1,100 from her cousin, half of what he himself had received. Cenk T. initially denied everything, but subsequently admitted that he had indeed asked her to do searches, but disputed the payments. Nouh H. could not be found.
