The Meetjesland Centrum police zone in the Flemish province of East Flanders is searching for the owner of a €50 note that someone brought to the police after finding it in a parking lot.

An unidentified person found the €50 note in the parking lot of the Colruyt supermarket in the municipality of Eeklo in East Flanders on Saturday 1 April, the police zone announced on its Facebook page.

"This is not an April Fools' joke," the police said.

They ask the person who lost the note to email the police zone and say around what time they lost the money. "It has to be sure that the note is yours," said Marino Longeville of the local police.

While there is camera footage, the police cannot access those for privacy reasons, seeing as no crime has happened, he added.
