Two Walloon pro-cycling nonprofit organisations, GRACQ- Les Cyclistes Quotidiens and Pro Vélo, are set to benefit from an increase in regional subsidies with a view to promoting the use of bicycles in Wallonia, Regional Mobility Minister Philippe Henry announced on Thursday.

GRACQ will receive €261,700 in subsidies in 2023, rising nearly 14% from the year before.

Likewise, Pro Vélo will enjoy an 11% increase in its subsidies to help fund its five locations across Wallonia (Namur, Liège, Mons, Ottignies and Gembloux). Pro Vélo provides bike training, rentals, and other services across the region.

Pro Vélo will also receive €250,000 in subsidies towards promoting its mobile pilot projects, such as moving cycling workshops vans or a fleet of “Vélos Solidaires” in Liège. In total, the organisation will receive €815,944 in 2023.

“These two associations contribute greatly to the concretisation of Wallonia’s cycling policy. They mobilise many users in order to make the practice of using bikes more accessible to them. We are going to allow them to further widen the range of their services,” the minister said.
