Supermarket chain Aldi has issued reassurances to its staff in Belgium after reports that the German discount chain is seeing significant losses.

According to several German media outlets, Aldi Nord – which also includes the Belgian shops – is losing money on its operations, despite rising sales. This is due to sharply rising costs. Aldi has not reacted to these reports.

The discount retailer had a 1,4% negative operating margin last year and is cancelling major investment projects, according to German outlet Handelsblatt.
