A luxury villa has been seized in Croatia as part of an investigation into the involvement of a Lokeren scrap metal dealer in international drug trafficking, the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office said on Friday.
In late April, several simultaneous searches took place in Lokeren, Antwerp and Split, Croatia, under the direction of the Dendermonde investigating judge.
“In order to steer the coordination of the intervention in Croatia and Belgium in the right direction, a Belgian delegation consisting of the investigating judge, the first deputy public prosecutor and two police officers was formed,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“This judicial action was part of an investigation into the involvement of a scrap metal dealer from Lokeren in international drug trafficking,” it added.
Three people were held, questioned and brought before the investigating judge, who had them placed under arrest warrants. A luxury villa in a Croatian resort was seized, the prosecutor’s office confirmed, without giving any further details.
