The mayor of Ciney in the Walloon province of Namur was attacked on Wednesday, Sudinfo reports.
His attacker is believed to be the husband of an alderwoman of the town, who suspects the two of having a romantic relationship.
Mayor Frédéric Deville was spotted bleeding in the Ciney cultural centre carpark, not far from the municipal administration building. "While taking his car to go to a board meeting, he was stopped by the partner of Anne Pirson, the first alderwoman of the town," a local resident told Sudinfo.

The attacker allegedly struck the mayor several times in the face. He suspects the two elected officials of having an affair.
"This relationship has existed for several months. It's an open secret. But the respective spouses only discovered it a few weeks ago," another local added.
