An individual has been arrested following a double assassination attempt committed on Saturday night at the Bois de Baconval estate in Gourdinne (Walcourt), the Namur Public Prosecutor's Office stated on Monday.
At around midnight, a man contacted the police claiming to be the target of suspicious actions by a person he was able to identify. At the same time, the suspect presented himself at Charleroi's major hospital as he had been shot in the foot.
The Charleroi police special unit arrested the man who had made the phone call and fired the gun. He had three weapons at home and opened fire on the police officers with one of them. The case has been placed under investigation for double attempted murder and carrying prohibited weapons.
The Namur Public Prosecutor's Office said on Monday that a ballistics expert had been called in. The arrested suspect, who is known to authorities for previous driving offences, is due to meet the examining magistrate this Monday.
