A judicial investigation has been opened into infanticide and culpable negligence following the discovery of the body of a baby in Bruges, according to the Bruges section of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office.
The child’s mother has been arrested.
The facts were revealed on Tuesday evening. However, it was not immediately known how the baby died.
An autopsy will reveal the exact circumstances of its death.
It was also not certain whether a crime was committed since the baby could have been stillborn, for example.
The victim’s mother was arrested on Tuesday evening. She is expected to be brought before an examining magistrate after the results of the autopsy are released.
