The Flemish government has paid 15,580 euro to people who were wrongly given red cards at vehicle inspections.
38 Flemish car owners who had to replace their windshield after faulty inspections received 410 euros back. The Flemish Ombudsman, Bart Weekers, said those car owners were subjected to stricter standards than those used across the rest of Europe. Not every scratch or crack in a windshield should lead to a red card, according to New Mobility.
Weekers also said that a website explaining inspection requirements with visuals and clear language will be used in the future to prevent this kind of mistake.
Weekers and the Department of Mobility will review the inspection manual as well.
