A Belgian father who is fighting for the return of his daughter, kidnapped by her Peruvian mother, has for the first time received some news of his girl.

Two months ago, the mother of Rubi sent the father a letter. "It turned out to be some words from my daughter. She wrote what she wanted for her birthday. She wants a lot of unicorns, kinder surprises and Nutella," said Gert Broeckx to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

Although a Peruvian court has confirmed that Rubi’s case, in legal terms is considered a kidnapping, the case is nevertheless stuck.

Broeckx has recently found out his file, completely blocked, had just been closed. "It is very frustrating that the Peruvian court of appeal decided that it was an abduction but that Rubi is still allowed to stay with his mother," he laments.

"I have to wait for Rubi to grow up and decide for herself what she wants. And in the meantime, I make sure that we do not forget Rubi. And not only Rubi, there are many children like her," Broeckx concludes, not wanting to give up.
