Three suspects are on trial in Limburg after being arrested during an investigation into burglaries at several businesses, spokeswoman Marijke Teunis of the Limburg public prosecutor’s office announced on Friday.
The three men, all from Brussels, are aged 33, 35 and 28.
The court confirmed the arrest of the 33-year-old on Friday. For the two others, the court hearing was postponed to next week.
Several local police officers had surrounded the Trius company on Henry Fordlaan in Genk on Wednesday after two of the men were spotted on the roof of the building.
A federal police negotiator arrived at the scene but the two kept walking around on the roof. They said they were willing to come down from the roof on the condition that they were allowed to smoke another cigarette. When they finished their cigarette, they came down and the police were able to arrest them.
The third suspect was apparently inside the building.
The Federal Judicial Police of Limburg had apparently had the trio in their sights for some time, as a judicial investigation was already underway following several burglaries targetting businesses.
All three suspects remain behind bars.
