Carrefour will open its first organic store in Belgium this Friday in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert.
The supermarket chain is responding to the growing demand for organic products, and Carrefour has plans to open two more organic stores by the end of the year, according to Bruzz.
According to Bruzz, more and more organic stores have opened in Brussels recently, but almost none of them are part of a supermarket chain.
Carrefour has cheap organic products in its hypermarkets on the outskirts of Brussels, Gino Van Ossel, professor of retail at the Vlerick business school, told Bruzz, but few of its hypermarkets are centrally located in the city. That may change, he said, with the supermarket's plans to open more organic stores.
