A child's foot was caught between steps on an escalator at Gare du Nord this morning.

The escalator stopped immediately, and emergency services were contacted, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

Firefighters removed stairs from the escalator to free the child's foot, and a doctor from MUG, the emergency medical brigade, gave the child a sedative. The process took about 30 minutes.

The child was part of a group of children on their way to a summer activity when their foot was trapped.

The child was taken to a hospital for an examination but did not seem to have any serious injuries, Het Nieuwsblad reported.
