The West Flanders Intercommunal Lifeguard Service has recorded a very low number of children reported "lost" on the Coast during the first half of July in comparison to previous years.

There were 102 children lost this year, versus 597 last year, which is the lowest number in five years over the same period of time.

The weather appears to be the main cause, as the beginning of July was not as hot and sunny as last year.

It is on the beaches at Ostend, Le Coq and Knokke-Heist that most are reported as lost.
