Some 1,720,000 people submitted their tax returns via Tax-on-Web this year, over 100,000 more than in the same period last year, show figures released by the Finance Ministry on Thursday.

Around 498,000 declarations were also submitted via someone with a mandate, such as an accountant. In the same period last year, that figure was only about half, but the deadline for those who filed a declaration through an authorised representative did not expire until the end of September then.

On top of that, the number of the paper tax returns that were sent by post, as well as the electronic returns completed by a tax official, must still be added. In total, the Ministry expects about 3.5 million tax returns, excluding the simplified returns.

Taxpayers with a specific income – such as remunerations for company directors, remunerations of assisting spouses or foreign professional income – still have until 18 October to submit their declaration via Tax-on-Web.

It is not yet clear how many people submitted their declarations too late.
