All Flemish forests and nature reserves have been issued a code orange alert for fires because of the heatwave.

The Agency for Nature and Forests issued the code orange alert this morning. Visitors are forbidden from making fires, towers are being permanently manned, and fire brigades have been strengthened in case a fire does break out.

According to HLN, a code orange is the second-highest warning level for fires. The highest is a code red, which means that forests and nature reserves are closed off.

It is unclear if a code red alert will be issued later today, according to DeMorgen. Officials are monitoring weather conditions hour by hour.
