Motorcyclist critically injured in hit-and-run on E17

A motorcyclist was fatally injured near the Haasdonk exit after being hit by a car on the E17 motorway towards Antwerp on Sunday morning.

The perpetrator committed a hit-and-run but was later caught, the East Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.

The motorcyclist was found unconscious along the E17 towards Antwerp at around 5:30 on Sunday morning. The driver reportedly had collided with a crash barrier.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with his life in danger. His condition was still unclear on Sunday evening.

The car driver who hit the motorbike committed a hit-and-run offence but was later caught. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He is a 24-year-old man from Antwerp.

For now, no further details are known regarding the accident. The driver of the accident was still being questioned on Sunday evening.
