A man has survived a knife attack during local festivities in the southern city of Couvin, Belgium.
The incident happened late Friday, as tensions escalated between two groups of friends, the Namur prosecutor's office reported on Sunday. The reasons for the conflict remain unclear.
One group chose to leave, but an individual from the opposing group persisted. The attacker responded by stabbing him, according to the prosecutor's office.
The victim's life is no longer threatened, after doctors had to perform a thoracic drain operation.
The attacker turned himself to the police on Saturday evening. He will face questioning and a formal investigation into the incident for either wilful assault and battery or attempted murder begins today.
