Antwerp is hosting the Citizens’ Budget Festival today – a process in which residents decide how to spend 10% of the next year’s budget.
On the agenda are rounds of discussions on the cycle-friendliness of the streets of Belgium's second-biggest city.
In 2023, Antwerp will complete another €1.4 million worth of projects submitted by residents. The citizens’ budget has been an annual tradition since 2014, which consists of both an online vote and a physical festival.
In the spring, residents traditionally decide which themes are important to them and how much money each theme gets.
Projects are submitted during the summer and votes are cast in the autumn. For this year, the theme ‘better footpaths’ was approved in advance. The other results will follow soon.
