A freight train with a locked brake has stopped at Beernem,West Flanders, causing disruption on the railway line between Ostend and Brussels, network operator Infrabel reported on Wednesday evening.
Delays and even cancellations are possible, according to Infrabel, which said traffic was being diverted via Lichtervelde.
The train originated in the port of Zeebrugge and was heading for Germany when it became blocked on the track near Beernem at around 2 p.m.
According to Infrabel, the blocked carriages should be towed away by an assistance locomotive around midnight.
