A man lost his life in a workplace accident at dock 913 of Antwerp’s port on Saturday, says Belgium’s Federal Police.
A crane collapsed during loading and unloading operations the police stated, causing part of the load to fall on the individual.
Investigators has since visited the site to conduct an inquiry. Preliminary findings suggest this was indeed a workplace accident.
Investigations into why the crane broke are still underway. There is speculation that a cable might have snapped. Despite efforts from emergency services, they arrived too late to save the man, who tragically died at the scene.
