Prime Minister Alexander De Croo commemorated the 105th anniversary of the Armistice at Menin Gate in Ypres on Saturday, a monument dedicated to the Commonwealth casualties of the First World War.
"Peace is a priceless asset that must be cherished, as taught by the great wars. This sentiment rings true today as we witness innocent casualties in conflicts along our southern and eastern borders," De Croo stated, referring to the Israel-Hamas war in the Middle East and Russia's war in Ukraine.
"We will only be able to stop extremism and hatred, which are the main causes of conflict and war, if we show each other mutual respect and solidarity. Our respect and great gratitude are more than justified for those who gave their lives so that today we can live in peace."
