The mother of murder victim Mariana Gouverneur (25) testified on Tuesday as the trial of the late woman's husband, Omar Hedi, continued at the Namur Assise Court.
Hedi (36) is accused of killing his wife by stabbing her 29 times on 18 April 2021 in the appartment on Rue de France, Rochefort, where the couple lived with their five childen.
On the stand, the victim’s mother gave evidence of a final Facetime call from her daughter on the evening of the stabbing.
“At around 11 p.m., she called. Her face was full of blood, it was running from her mouth,” she related. “She told me to call the ambulance, that she was going to die. So I did. I tried to call her back. Omar picked up. I insulted him. He showed me Mariana and hung up.
“She was inert, not moving. He said, ‘She's left me alone with the children,’ and told me it was my fault. He showed me my dying daughter to destroy me,” the grieving mother said.
“I want justice to be done, he must pay for what he did,” she added. “Omar Hedi took everything from me, my child, my blood, my flesh. My daughter was the most precious thing I had.”
The accused then replied: “I’m sorry, I’m guilty, I ask them to forgive me.”
